Core Responsibilities
- The Transmission Operations department is seeking to hire a Mechanic B (WELDER) to join its team. The nature of the job requires an individual to have a minimum of four years experience as a welder with the ability to read and understand welding procedures. Selected candidate must have experience reading blueprints, sketches, and or electrical schematics and must be able to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills. Candidate may be required to work overtime. Knowledge and skill are required in the following areas, but not limited to: use of hand and power tools, the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical equipment, knowledge of sheeting and shoring, safe work practices, and environmental policies and procedures, and the ability to perform standard maintenance functions.
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of four years experience as a welder, with the ability to read and understand welding procedures.

- REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- -High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of four years experience as a welder with the ability to read and understand welding procedures.
- - Selected candidate must have experience reading blueprints, sketches, and or electrical schematics.
- - Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
- - Knowledge and skill are required in the following areas, but not limited to: use of hand and power tools, the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical equipment, knowledge of sheeting and shoring, safe work practices, and environmental policies and procedures, and the ability to perform standard maintenance functions.
- - Must be able to work overtime and full rotating shift.
- -Requires basic computer proficiency to include Microsoft office. Required
- PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- - Experience with gas metal arc welding.
- - Qualification in ASME B31.1 and API 1104 codes using shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding.
- -Demonstrated skill in welding of pressure piping and oxygen/acetylene cutting of steel plates and piping.

Physical Demands
- Must respond to system emergencies
- Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
- Must perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Must perform heavy manual labor; i.e. pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confined spaces
- Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Must walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
- Must use hand tools and operate heavy equipment,i.e. jackhammers
- Selected candidates must pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
- Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
- Must work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 350 llbs.
- Must be able to use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375 lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment.
