Core Responsibilities
- Strong working knowledge of IP routing protocols such as Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
- Understand L2 and L3 protocols within MPLS, VPN, Label Distribution Protocol (LDP), Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP)
- Support the telecommunication requirements of the company's communication network.
- Mostly travel to NYC area, but may require longer distance (less than 80 miles) to support 24/7 coverage of the computing and telecommunications infrastructure
- Perform testing and simple problem determination of computing and communications equipment and related components, ensuring conformity to manufacturer and industry performance standards.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues related to Cisco DWDM, Ethernet, and SONET platforms.
- Perform troubleshooting relating to alerts and maintenance of Nokia IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network system.
- Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 platform protocols within MPLS, VPN, Label Distribution Protocol (LDP), Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP).
- Support IP routing protocols systems such as Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
- Monitor communications and network and provide support as necessary to various incident response teams.
- Respond to Planned and Unplanned Power Events, LAN and WAN events, affecting communication equipment.
- Preparing and executing action plans from correcting incidents reported by monitored devices including reconfigurations, firmware upgrades, component troubleshooting, repair and replacement.
- Plan for the physical installation, commissioning and maintenance of all types of telecommunication devices (e.g. Avtec, iCon ,Wireless devices, etc.)
- Managing and coordinating team members and varying dependent organizations to ensure successful on-time completion of maintenance work.
- Work closely in all aspects with System Performance Supervisors and union employees that maintain the CCTN infrastructure providing services to critical Gas and Electrical systems.
- Leading cross-functional maintenance work with others (including members from peer IT groups, NOC, Engineering, Facilities, and Operation groups) for the company's Corporate Communication Transmission Network.
- Works with subject matter experts to monitor, troubleshoot, and support all facets of network technologies including LAN and WAN networking, Cisco UCS, and departmental VLANs, over 100 sites in NYC and Westchester.
- Assist in deploying various communications applications and network infrastructure and cyber security tools, including installing, configuring, provisioning, and testing in the lab and field hardware components, software, and firmware applications.
- Support the cyber action team through forensics analysis of systems, malware, or network.
- Perform maintenance management functions which include scheduling of work and budgetary functions.
- Documents problems and resolutions.
- Must be available 24/7, on call, and/or participate in off-hour emergency response activities as required.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Information Technology or Engineering or Construction or Business or related field and Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience L2 and L3 protocols including MPLS and Cisco SONET or
- Associate's Degree Information Technology or Engineering or Construction or Business or related field and Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience In addition to experience details listed above, experience in mechanical, electrical and plumbing plant.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Information Technology or Engineering or Construction or Business or related field and Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience L2 and L3 protocols including MPLS and Cisco SONET
Relevant Work Experience
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines simultaneously Required
- A good understanding of industry standard policy, processes and procedures covering incident, problem and change management is preferred Required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required Required

Physical Demands

- Must travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Must use eye-hand coordination to adjust controls on equipment
- Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
- Must use their personal vehicles and transport, store, and secure company laptop computers and other job related equipment in the vehicle. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure.
Other Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
