Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • The Supervisor/Technical supervisor will ensure the safe and environmental compliance for the operating equipment at 59th Street Station. The Supervisor will efficiently utilize employees and materials in the repair, maintenance, and overhaul of power plant equipment, such as boilers, turbines, generators, electrical protective relays and auxiliaries.
  • For the Supervisor (1H):
  • Responsible for the safety, productivity and quality of the work performed by the I&C technician for all types of maintenance the section is responsible for.
  • Supervise union personnel and enforcing all contractual and local work rules, assigning personnel to jobs in accordance with the Station weekly work schedule and performing administrative tasks in MAXIMO daily.
  • Supervisor plans, schedules, coordinates, and analyzes compliance testing for equipment, recommend and review procedures for system reliability, and commission new equipment through review of tests.
  • Attends daily management meetings to report job progress, is fully knowledgeable of work scopes and will submit Work Permit Requests in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and program procedures applicable to Steam Operations generating stations.
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills to track and manage a variety of tasks in a fast-paced setting.

  • Responsible for conducting On the Job training (OJT), effective job briefings and documented job site safety exchanges.
  • Maintain and update security and software for Transient Cyber Assets (TCAs).
  • Adheres to Company rules and terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Determines appropriate disciplinary action, conducts interviews, participates in settlement of grievances and evaluates subordinates work performance.
  • For the Technical Supervisor (2L); In addition to the Supervisor (1H) responsibilities:
  • Ensures the compliance of the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) by coordinating, conducting and completing Corrective Maintenance (CMs), Preventative Maintenance (PMs) and audits to ensure the annual recertification of all analyzers within CEMS to be complaint with the EPA.
  • Review the I&C compliance system and work with staff to schedule preventative maintenance to be performed on a monthly basis. This will include instrumentation, relay calibrations and trip checks.
  • Create outage schedules with the Operations and Maintenance departments, complete outages as scheduled.
  • Efficient and proper handling of multiple assignments is essential for success in this position.
  • Will lead troubleshooting, repair efforts, and restoration of equipment or control circuits.
  • Support station as technical representative for capital projects involving control systems and components.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or technical equivalent degree And 2 years related work experience (Supervisor 1H) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems Or
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or technical equivalent degree And 3 years related work experience (Technical Supervisor 2L) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems Or
  • Associate's Degree Engineering or technical equivalent degree And 4 years related work experience (Supervisor 1H) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems Or
  • Associate's Degree Engineering or technical equivalent degree And 5 years related work experience (Technical Supervisor 2L) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems Or
  • High School Diploma/GED 5 years related work experience (Supervisor 1H) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems Or
  • High School Diploma/GED 7 years related work experience (Technical Supervisor 2L) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or technical equivalent degree 2 years related work experience (Supervisor 1H) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or technical equivalent degree 3 years related work experience (Technical Supervisor 2L) Work experience in troubleshooting and repair of power plant instrumentation and control systems

Required Work Experience

  • The ability to lead troubleshooting, repair efforts, and restoration of equipment or control circuits. Required
  • The ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings (including schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs and function logic diagrams) and be able to provide marked prints of field conditions. Required
  • Must have knowledge of safe work practices/procedures, operating orders, work permits and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Required
  • Must have excellent leadership and communication skills along with the ability to work as part of a team. Required
  • Knowledge of Combustion Gas Turbine operation (2L). Required
  • Experience in Pneumatics, Relay Protection, and Control Systems (2L). Required
  • Supervisory Experience (2L). Req

Physical Demands

  • Must respond to system emergencies
  • Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
  • Must perform heavy manual labor; i.e. pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confined spaces
  • Must work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles/equipment
  • Must work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Must climb ladders and stairs
  • Must work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, or equipment
  • Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.

  • Must climb in and out of manholes and excavations
  • Must stand, walk, and climb ladder and stairs for a whole shift

  • Must use hand tools and operate heavy equipment,i.e. jackhammers
  • Must unload materials from delivery vehicles and deliver equipment and materials to various operating facilities
  • Must travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Must use eye-hand coordination to adjust controls on equipment
  • Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be physically able to work in a power plant environment with extreme heat conditions, noise, high elevations, and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work under conditions of high temperatures and at high elevations in the plant.
